DARK UNIVERSE (JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK) IS OFF THE SLUMP WITH NEW DIRECTOR
With Guillermo del Toro bowing out of DC Extended Universe’s Dark Universe movie (formerly called Justice League Dark), fans were a bit skeptical if the project would even take off… until now.
Del Toro, with a lineup of sci-fi, fantasy films under his directorial belt (Hellboy 1 & 2, Pan’s Labyrinth to name a few), was expected to bring his vision of DCEU’s Justice League Dark to the big screen until news got out last June 2015 of the director stepping off of the job. This was supposed to be a passion project for del Toro since he has been working on the Dark Universe/ Justice League Dark screenplay for years now. With a slew of projects in the coming months like The Shape of Water, Pacific Rim: Maelstrom, Hellboy 3 and TV series The Strain, who can blame the guy?
Amidst the predicament, fans of DC/Vertigo comics need not worry because Edge of Tomorrow and Bourne Identity director Doug Liman takes helming duties of the “del Toro passion project”. Liman’s move towards the movie caused the X-men spin-off Gambit to lose the director, by which Variety reported “a mutual split between the studio and Liman”.
Dark Universe doesn’t have a release date and no official actors are connected yet but, that won’t stop avid followers of the comics from fan-casting John Constantine, Zatanna, Deadman, Swamp Thing, Shade the Changing Man, Black Orchid, and Madame Xanadu. Who would you cast in the movie? Sound off below.
