FIRST IMAGE OF DAVID HARBOUR AS HELLBOY IS ALL KINDS OF AWESOME
Our first glimpse at the new Hellboy is finally here!
When it was announce Hellboy would get a fresh reboot courtesy of director Neil Marshall (The Descent) with Hellboy: Rise of The Blood Queen, one of the big question marks was how he would reimagine the Big Red Ape for a new series. The look and performance of Ron Perlman in the titular role was a big hit with Guillermo del Toro’s original Hellboy movie, so the bar was set quite high. Well, wonder no more. We now have our first look at David Harbour in the role for the 2018 film.
What is remarkable is how close Marshall has kept to the original design of Hellboy while also making him look more gritty and dare we say — realistic (relative term here) than his previous iteration. Big Red is looking far less friendly and more intimidating, befitting Marshall’s darker sensibilities.
This image was followed up with an additional black and white shot of Hellboy in his trademark overcoat.
All that remains to be seen is whether Harbour can capture the gruff charm Ron Perlman brought to the role, but if his performance in Stranger Things is any indication, portraying a tough guy with a heart of gold is no stretch for the veteran actor. See him in action next year in Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen, starring David Harbour, Ian McShane (American Gods), Daniel Dae Kim (Lost, Hawaii 5-0), and Milla Jovovich (Resident Evil). A release date has yet to be determined.
