SUPERGIRL SEASON 2 DEBUT: HOW IT FARED AND WHAT’S TO COME (PLUS NEW TRAILER)
Kara Zor-El a.k.a. Supergirl swoops by The CW as Supergirl Season 2 debuted on Monday.
Supergirl Season 2 debuted on The CW on October 10 and based on Nielsen Media Research, the show ranks as the network’s most-watched telecast in its time period (Mondays, 8:00 – 9:00 pm) in 8 years. The move to its new home was justified through a 1.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 3.02 million viewers making it The CW’s no. 2 show after The Flash.
Along with the debut was a press screening. Supergirl executive producer Andrew Kreisberg gave fans a taste of the most talked-about four-way crossover between Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.
“Some people, like Barry [Grant Gustin], already know her, so Barry’s completely cool with her,” Kreisberg says, referring to The Flash-Supergirl crossover from last year. “Some people are instantly charmed by her; I think Sara’s [Caity Lotz] got a little crush on her. Diggle [David Ramsey], as always, just when he thinks he’s seen it all, there’s a moment in it where somebody says, ‘This is Supergirl,’ and they say, ‘What’s so super about her?’ and she just lifts off the ground. Dig’s like, ‘I’m convinced.’
“Part of Oliver’s [Stephen Amell] journey in those episodes is he’s kind of hit his breaking point for things he’s willing to accept,” Kreisberg says. “He’s keeping his distance, which is a very Oliver thing to do. Even Kara comments, ‘Does he not like me?’ Barry’s like, ‘No, that’s kind of how he treats everybody.”- EW
Although the cross-over isn’t coming out until late November, Supergirl fans still ought to be excited about next week’s episode. Tyler Hoechlin continues to don the Superman suit as he and Kara defend National City once again from the evil kryptonite wielding Metallo. Metallo, along with other new alien threats, is introduced in a new trailer. The sneak peek (featured above) features scenes from the first episode and what’s to come in Supergirl 2×02: “The Last Children of Krypton” and 2×03: “Welcome to Earth”. The Hero In You trailer gives us a glimpse of the original Wonder Woman, Lynda Carter, as POTUS Olivia Marsdin. At the 0:28 mark, you’ll hear what seems to be Carter preaching Supergirl, “It’s not enough to defend the world, you need to live in it too.”
Supergirl continues next Monday at 8pm on The CW.
