CONRAD VERNON TO DIRECT ‘TOXIC AVENGER’ REMAKE
The ‘Sausage Party’ director will helm a new version of the cult classic.
As if bringing foul-mouthed, anthropomorphic food to life wasn’t daunting enough, Variety reports Conrad Vernon has lined up his next project, a remake of the Troma cult classic superhero series ‘Toxic Avenger’. “The opportunity to re-imagine a favorite cult-classic from my high school years is an honor. Toxie is an underground icon. My favorite kind!” Vernon stated. Originally debuting in 1984, Toxic Avenger followed the story of a teenager that fell into a vat of toxic goo and emerged a mutated superhero. The hilarious underground film was so popular spawned two sequels and a short-lived animated series Toxic Crusaders (which then spawned the greatest line of toys ever made). No word yet on who’s scripting the film, but if Sausage Party is any indication Toxic Avenger will maintain the comedic tone and genre-bending madness fans associate with the character. No release date has been set.
