SPOILER WARNING: The following article contains potential spoilers for the upcoming film.

Courtesy of Umberto Gonzalez over a The Wrap  we now have an inkling of actress Zendaya’s mysterious role in Spider-Man: Homecoming. According to reported script leaks, the Shake It Up actress will be playing none other than longtime Spidey love interest Mary Jane Watson.

The character was played by Kirsten Dunst in the original Sam Raimi trilogy and Shailene Woodley was cast for the role in Amazing Spider-Man 2, but all of her scenes were cut from the theatrical release. News of this casting has yet to be confirmed by Sony or Marvel.

Mary Jane Watson first debuted in 1965 with The Amazing Spider-Man #25. The smoldering redhead quickly became a fan favorite character and the longest-running love interest of Peter Parker. If this rumor holds true it will be the first time in the character’s history being portrayed as a woman of color.

Spider-Man: Homecoming by Sony Pictures hits theaters July 7, 2016 and stars Tom Holland, Michael Keaton, Marissa Tomei, Donald Glover, Laura Harrier, Bokeem Woodbine, and Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man. Directed Jon Watts (Cop Car) and produced by Kevin Feige with Marvel Studios, this will be the first Spider-Man film to take place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
